From Paradise Organics, Yelm This week we will comment on Soundgro fertilizer. This fertilizer is manufactured in Pierce County from human septic waste and applied to our lands and food crops in large quantities. Many commercial food production farms use this material due to its low cost.

Years ago, Pierce County attempted to dump “Class B” bio-solids on the land in the Bald Hill area. Public uprising stopped this from happening but soon Pierce County began processing the “Class B” bio-solids into “Class A” bio-solids to eliminate its human waste disposal problem by marketing the material to farmers and homeowners as plant food.

While the fertilizer meets government standards for low heavy metal and pathogen free content, no mention or test is required to screen for commonly used items that regularly find their way into the public septic system.

Items such as antibiotics and other prescription medicines passed through people’s bodies, cleaning fluids, PCBs, agricultural waste such as insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, hundreds of other poisons present in people’s bodies from eating chemically laden foods (5,500 chemical additives in our various foods), toxins in shampoos, deodorants and other “health care” products, etc., – the list gets very long.

In reality, if a person lived on a 100% organic diet then the hu-manure would be a worthy plant food if sufficiently heated to kill any pathogens. However, clean dieting people’s waste is not what the municipal septic service collects; it is loaded with hundreds of toxins that combine to create a veritable soup of not-so-nice hupoo.

On organic farms, animal manures are commonly used as plant food. With the better organic farms, they make certain that the manure is clean and free of chemicals and other non-organic products fed or administered to the animals.

We thought we would mention this product to remind gardeners with true health consciousness in mind, that we should (and we certainly do at Paradise Organics) abstain from its use in spite it being very low cost, easy to obtain locally, and promoted by our servant government as safe for growing food.

Many non-organic foods obtained in our local markets are fertilized with hupoo and the consumer is not aware because package labeling is not required.
